Mt Kenya is the second-highest mountain in Africa after Kilimanjaro and it stands at 5,199m above sea level. The mountain is located some 138km north of Nairobi and you will move from one hemisphere of the world into the other. You will cross the equator from the south into the north before doing the climb on Mt Kenya and also see the great central Kenya green plantations.
One Day Hike Itinerary
Mt Kenya National Park Day Hike is a full day hiking trip in Mt Kenya National Park to see the peaks from the moorland.
Mt Kenya National Park day hike departs from Nairobi at 0500 Hours
You will get to the Naro Moru gate and start the Mt Kenya National Park day hike.
The hike starts from the Mount Kenya Naro Moru gate walking through a narrow trail through the rain forest. You have a chance to see lots of animals in the rain forest region including buffalos, elephants, rhinos, antelopes and others.
In Mt Kenya National Park there are also hundreds of birds to see and the great indigenous trees with very wide girths and very high canopies.
The Mt Kenya National park Met station is at 3400m and you will enjoy a short rest for 15 minutes. Proceed on to the Alpine region where the tree line ends and gives way to montane vegetation of grass and giant lobelia.
Enjoy a packed lunch at the picnic site while you relax. The view of the Mt Kenya National Park peaks from here will be the best you can get on any Mt Kenya 1 Day Hiking Trip from Nairobi.
Start the trek down to the Naromoru gate passing the met station and through the Mt Kenya National Park rain forest.
Exit the gate and drive back to Nairobi arriving late evening.
