The perfect place for adventurers who love an adrenaline rush is rafting on the River Tana, which offers Grade 3–5 rapids depending on the season. You can also kayak or plunge from a 40 ft waterfall into the wild waters of the Sagana River.
Rapids Camp was privileged to host the first-ever African Olympic Canoe Qualifier/Kayaking Championship in January 2008, with over 16 African countries participating in this breathtaking event.
In 2015, we hosted the Rio 2016 qualifiers for the second time, following a request from the International Canoe Federation (ICF). Rapids Camp offers the best location to capture lifetime photos for rafting and kayaking enthusiasts in Kenya, being the only camp with a massive waterfall.
We also suggest that after rafting in Sagana (Tana), Kenya, you can take advantage of our campsite activities, which include camping, kayaking, team building, river trekking, and rock climbing. You can also relax on our beautifully manicured lawns.
À la carte lunch at Rapids Camp is served while you wait. For a bush breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you need to place an order in advance, as we are a self-catering camp in Kenya. Rapids Camp remains a preferred destination for white water rafting in Kenya.

Our programs begin either at 9:00 am or 2:00 pm. The rafting trip covers a 12 km stretch, and we navigate different river routes under the guidance of our qualified instructors. The routes feature varying grades of rapids, from flat water to Grade 5, depending on the season. April to May sees the highest water levels due to the long monsoon rains in Kenya, and the same occurs from November to December.
Upon arrival, you will receive a short safety briefing lasting 10–15 minutes, during which you will be introduced to your rafting guide and have the opportunity to ask questions. A waiver form must be filled out at the beginning of every rafting trip. You may also request our white water rafting packages.
During the rafting expedition, Rapids Camp combines water glides, stress-free sections, and features like Angel’s Bowl, as well as the thrilling 40 ft Rapids Falls plunge. Throughout these activities, the rafting team and guides take all necessary safety measures to ensure client safety.
Guests are transported in a truck fitted with benches as we begin our Sagana rafting expedition. As mentioned, there are several rafting routes in Sagana, some of which require technical skill while navigating downstream. You will arrive back at the camp around 1:00 pm via our own waterfall, one of Kenya’s most magnificent natural features. Along the way, you will pass through rapids, the amazing Angel’s Bowl, and calmer sections before finally disembarking near the changing area. Guests then carry the raft back to the camp together.
Our bathrooms have hot water, allowing you to shower and change clothes comfortably. Lunch is served between 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm.
