Ndere Island is generally a hill. After a kilometre of hiking, you will get to the top of the hill. Looking around, the views are overwhelming. From the viewpoint, one can see distant Kisumu skyscrapers and part of Uganda.
Ndere Island has among the most beautiful views over Lake Victoria. The Island is accessible by road around 40km from Kisumu town then you take a motorboat which will ferry you for around 20 minutes.
Ndeere Island is a perfect spot for photography, camping, hiking and picnic events. There is also wildlife within the Island. The most common wildlife here is Zebra, Sitatunga and monkeys. Entry fee for the park is very affordable.
Depart from Kisumu to Kaloka beach to connect your boat to Ndere Island. It is only 4.2sq km an Island just off the northern shores of Lake Victoria, opened in November 1986. The name Ndere means ‘Meeting Place’ in the dialect of the local Luo tribe.
According to Luo folklore, Mikayi – the mother of the tribe, rested up near Ndere after her long journey South Down the Nile Valley. She found the lush shoreline so pleasing that she and her people stayed.
0800 hrs: Pick up from location/locations to be advised.
1000 hrs: Arrive at Kaloka Beach and embark on a boat ride to the Island.
1030 hrs: 1230hrs: Safari Walk, Photography and hiking at Ndere Island.
1300 hrs: Picnic lunch on the island
1500 hrs: Boat Ride Back to Kaloka Beach. Safaris Driver /Tour guide staff will then drop you off at a location of your choice within the Kisumu city.
