Explore the traditional lifestyles of Kenyan tribes at Bomas of Kenya, a tourist village located about 10 kilometers from Nairobi. A half-day tour of the village is enough to learn about and appreciate Kenya’s rich cultural heritage. During your visit, you will enjoy traditional dance performances, songs, and folklore. A jaw-dropping acrobatic show is one of the most loved attractions at Bomas of Kenya.
Your tour begins with pickup from your Nairobi hotel or accommodation at 1:00 PM. Here, you will experience the vibrant culture of Kenya’s 42 different ethnic groups as expressed through traditional dances, music, songs, and storytelling. There is a large arena where impressive acrobatic performances take place.
Bomas of Kenya features extensive displays of traditional dancers and is spread across many acres. It also showcases a fascinating collection of mud huts and traditional Kenyan homesteads. This makes it an ideal destination for families with children, as they can freely explore—running in and out of huts, climbing ladders, and enjoying an active and engaging environment.
The traditional homes are arranged in clusters according to different regions. Each homestead typically includes the first wife’s hut, second wife’s hut, granary, and livestock areas, allowing visitors to see the diversity and structure of traditional Kenyan living.
Established in 1971 after Kenya’s independence in 1964, the Bomas of Kenya is run by the Kenyan government and aims to preserve and promote the country’s rich cultural heritage. In addition to the main attractions—traditional dances and homesteads—there is also a large wooden play area for young children, as well as a small village of craft shops and other attractions.
