What to Expect:
Ever wondered how a place can have so much history and still survive for a long time? Well, Fort Jesus is perhaps the most popular attraction in the Old Town. This historic monument was constructed by the Portuguese during 1593-1596 and designed by an Italian architect, Cairati. Fort Jesus is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a fine display of 16th-century Portuguese military architecture.
We will get a chance to enjoy the exhibition of the wide collection of ceramics and pottery reflecting the various cultures that traded along with the ports of Mombasa.
We will also have the pleasure of walking around within the compound, where we will see many fascinating battlements and derelict buildings, including the Omani house, a building with Omani jewellery and displays on Swahili life.
