Highlights

Sala’s Camp is a tented camp that combines tradition with comfort and is a model of understated, intimate luxury. It is situated in the southern, wilder corner of Kenya’s famous Masai Mara Game Reserve, close to the confluence of the Sand and Keekorok Rivers—an idyllic location that attracts abundant wildlife.

Sala’s Camp’s location is a major advantage. Positioned close to the Tanzanian border with stunning views of Serengeti National Park, it is one of the first camps in the Mara to witness the legendary annual wildebeest migration, which passes through from June to September each year.

Sala’s Camp offers exceptional wildlife and birdlife viewing year-round. Since welcoming its first guests in 2004, it has built a reputation for combining an authentic safari experience with excellent hospitality and fine dining.

Sala’s Camp is ideal for honeymooners as well as families traveling with children. From the tents, guests can enjoy game viewing, with wildlife frequently seen nearby. The camp is small, intimate, rustic, yet luxurious, and can accommodate up to 23 guests when full.

Day 1: Fly from Nairobi to the Masai Mara Reserve

Early morning pick-up and transfer from your Nairobi hotel to Wilson Airport for your flight to the Masai Mara. The 45-minute flight departs Wilson Airport at 09:15 and is expected to land at an airstrip in the Masai Mara at around 10:00.

Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to the camp for check-in and lunch. After lunch, enjoy a late afternoon game drive. Return to camp for sunset drinks followed by dinner.

The Masai Mara is a spectacular expanse of open grassland covering 1,510 km² in the southwest corner of Kenya. The tree-lined Mara River supports a healthy population of hippos and crocodiles, which are especially active during the river crossings of the Great Migration.

Wildlife roams freely throughout the vast Masai Mara ecosystem, with no fences or boundaries restricting animal movement. The Masai Mara and the Serengeti together form a continuous ecosystem that hosts the world-famous migration.

Each year, typically between August and September, the Mara hosts the incredible wildebeest migration. Millions of animals move across the plains in a continuous flow, closely followed by predators. This natural spectacle has been featured in countless wildlife documentaries and photographs.

Day 2: Masai Mara Game Reserve

Rise early with tea or coffee and head out for a morning game drive before breakfast.

After some relaxation time at camp, enjoy an afternoon game drive, ending with sundowners in the bush. Game drives are conducted in 4WD Land Cruisers with experienced guides who are knowledgeable and passionate about the flora and fauna of the Masai Mara.

Optional activities include a hot air balloon safari, offering breathtaking aerial views of the savannah and wildlife below. After the flight, enjoy a bush breakfast before returning to camp.

You may also visit a local Maasai village (manyatta) to experience the culture of this proud, semi-nomadic community.

Guided walking safaris are also available, led by Maasai guides. These walks provide insights into local plants, traditional medicine, and Maasai folklore, and typically last 1.5 to 2 hours.

Day 3: Masai Mara Game Reserve

Enjoy another full day exploring the Masai Mara with morning and afternoon game drives.

Take in the diverse wildlife, stunning landscapes, and unique ecosystem. Optional activities such as hot air balloon rides, cultural visits, or guided walks can be arranged.

Relax at the camp between activities and enjoy the peaceful surroundings and excellent hospitality.

Day 4: Masai Mara – Nairobi

Enjoy a final early morning game drive or opt for a hot air balloon safari over the plains.

After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Nairobi, marking the end of your Masai Mara fly-in safari.
