Itinerary:
Day 1: Nairobi – Samburu Game Reserves
JAMBO – KARIBU KENYA!! An Exploring Tourism representative will warmly meet you upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with our traditional, unique, and special welcome (bubbly, wet towels, and presentation of an authentic safari hat along with a beautiful canvas pouch filled with safari essentials). You will then be transferred to Wilson Airport for your scheduled morning flight to Samburu.
Upon arrival, you will be warmly met by the camp driver-guide and transferred via game-viewing drive to the intimate 12-tent Elephant Bedroom Camp. Enjoy a warm welcome, lunch, and a short siesta before heading out for an afternoon game drive.
The Samburu region is home to several endemic northern species, including the gerenuk (Twiga gazelle) for its long neck, Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, and Grevy’s zebra. Samburu is also an ornithological paradise with many birds, including the palm-nut vulture and vulturine dove. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
Day 2: Samburu Game Reserves
Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in both Samburu and Buffalo Springs Game Reserves. Leopards are often seen at dusk.
The Samburu culture is fascinating, sharing many ancestral and linguistic ties with the Maasai. The entire region offers breathtaking and magical beauty, where a deep red sunset silhouetting doum palms along the river, as a leopard emerges to hunt, creates the perfect end to a day on safari. Meals and overnight at the camp.
Day 3: Samburu Game Reserve – Masai Mara Game Reserve
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your morning flight to the Masai Mara. Upon arrival at Ole Kiombo Airstrip, the camp driver-guide and vehicle will meet you and transfer you to the intimate 20-tent Tipilikwani Camp for a warm welcome, check-in, and lunch.
In the afternoon, depart with the guide-driver for an exciting game drive. The rolling plains and grasslands stretching to the horizon are home to black-maned lions, savannah elephants, Cape buffalo, wildebeests, elusive leopards, cheetahs, spotted and striped hyenas, rhinos, topi, Burchell’s zebra, Masai giraffes, and many others.
The Masai Mara never disappoints, offering incredible wildlife and bird diversity. Return to the camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Masai Mara Game Reserve
Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives and adventures. Be on the lookout for the Big Five: lion, savannah (African) elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard, and black rhino. You may even witness a leopard or cheetah sprint to make a kill! Return to camp for dinner and overnight.
Optional Activities:
Balloon safari over the Mara plains
Visit a traditional Masai manyatta (off the beaten track) to experience the culture of this world-famous community
Day 5: Masai Mara Game Reserve – Nairobi
After breakfast, check out and transfer to Ole Kiombo Airstrip for your scheduled flight to Nairobi. Capture the special moments with photographs to immortalize your safari experience.
Upon arrival at Wilson Airport, your Exploring Tourism guide-driver will meet you and transfer you to the Carnivore Restaurant for lunch (time permitting) before continuing to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward flight.
