The Sirimon Track is one of the finest approaches to the peak area. It offers some of the best views of the main peaks, with a gradual climb that can be done leisurely. We traverse the mountain by ascending the Sirimon Track and descending via the Naro Moru Track, the camping route.
Detailed Itinerary:
Day 1: Nairobi – Sirimon Gate – Judmaier Camp (3,300m)
Depart Nairobi at 0700 hrs and drive to the Mount Kenya region (approximately a 3-hour drive), arriving at Naro Moru town by 1000 hrs, where you will meet your guides and porters. The guides will assist in sorting your personal equipment for the trek. You will then be driven to Sirimon Park Gate, where you will register before starting a 3-hour hike through the equatorial forest to the camp (3,300m). A packed lunch will be served en route. Enjoy an easy trek in the afternoon to aid acclimatisation. Overnight at Judmaier Camp (3,300m) in high-altitude mountain tents.
Day 2: Judmaier Camp – Liki North Camp (3,990m)
After breakfast, hike along the Sirimon Track to Likii North Valley through the moorland, continuing to Liki North Camp. The camp is set between two beautiful valleys below the subsidiary peaks of Teleki and Sendejo, ancient parasitic vents of the main peaks. Lunch will be served en route. Overnight in high-altitude tents on a full-board basis.
Day 3: Liki North Camp – Shipton's Camp (4,300m)
After breakfast, trek out of the North Valley and into Mackinder’s Valley, one of the broadest valleys on the mountain, known for its giant groundsels. The camp is located at the head of Mackinder’s Valley, just below the main peaks of Batian and Nelion (4,300m). Overnight at Shipton’s Camp in high-altitude tents on a full-board basis.
Day 4: Shipton's Camp – Pt. Lenana (4,985 m) – Met. Station (3,080m)
A pre-dawn start at 0400 hrs is required to ensure a successful summit attempt and to reach the peak in time for sunrise. With the guidance of your team, ascend to the third-highest peak, Pt. Lenana (4,985m), which takes approximately 4–5 hours. On a clear day, you may be able to see Uhuru Peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Spend a few minutes at the summit for celebration and photos.
Afterwards, descend to Teleki Valley on the opposite side of the main peaks and continue to Mackinder’s Camp for breakfast and rest. Later, proceed down to Met. Station for dinner and overnight (3,080m).
Day 5: Met. Station – Naro Moru Park Gate – Nairobi
After breakfast, depart Met. Station and hike through the forest to Naro Moru Park Gate, where a vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to Nairobi or to your next destination. End of tour.
