Tour's Review:

This safari itinerary covers Aberdares National Park, Samburu Game Reserve, Ol Pejeta Ranch, Lake Nakuru National Park, and Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Explore Mount Kenya, the Great Rift Valley, the plains of Samburu, and the Maasai Mara. Spot rare animals such as the Grevy’s zebras, reticulated giraffes, and Beisa oryx in Samburu National Park. There’s also a rare chance to see chimpanzees in Sweetwaters Sanctuary.

Observe white rhinos and Rothschild giraffes in Lake Nakuru National Park. Experience the rich culture of the Samburu and Maasai people by visiting one of their villages (Manyatta).

Itinerary:

Day 1: Nairobi – Aberdares National Park

Pick up from your Nairobi hotel or airport in the morning and depart for Aberdares National Park. The drive is approximately 3.5 hours to Aberdares Country Club, the base hotel for The Ark Lodge. Check in and have lunch.

In the afternoon, transfer to The Ark Lodge, which has four viewing decks with balconies and lounges overlooking watering holes frequented by wild animals. Enjoy superb game viewing from the comfort of the lodge—here, the animals come to you!

Dinner and overnight at The Ark Lodge.

Day 2: Aberdares National Park – Samburu Game Reserve

After breakfast, depart Aberdares for Samburu Game Reserve via Isiolo. On arrival, enjoy game viewing en route to the lodge, followed by lunch and check-in. After lunch, relax until 16:00, then head out for the evening game drive.

Spot rare species such as the reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, gerenuk, Somali ostrich, and Grevy’s zebra. Samburu is also home to a variety of bird species. Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Samburu Camp or Sarova Shaba Lodge.

Day 3: Samburu Game Reserve

Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Samburu Camp or Sarova Shaba Lodge.

Day 4: Samburu Game Reserve – Ol Pejeta Ranch, Sweetwaters Sanctuary

After breakfast, depart Samburu Game Reserve for Ol Pejeta Ranch, home to Sweetwaters Sanctuary. The drive is approximately 3.5 hours. Check in at the camp for lunch and relax. Sweetwaters Sanctuary is the only facility in Kenya for the rehabilitation of chimpanzees, with two groups living in an environment closely resembling their natural habitat.

The site is also a dedicated black rhino breeding area. Enjoy afternoon game drives across the park, then return for dinner and overnight at Sweetwaters Serena Tented Camp.

Day 5: Sweetwaters Sanctuary – Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast, depart for Lake Nakuru National Park via Isiolo. Stop for lunch at Thomson’s Falls and arrive at Lake Nakuru National Park around 14:00. The afternoon game drive takes you to the lake to view flamingoes and pelicans.

Also spot white and black rhinos, Rothschild giraffes, and waterbucks. The Lake Forest attracts a wide variety of bird species. Dinner and overnight at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge or Flamingo Hill Tented Camp.

Day 6: Lake Nakuru National Park – Maasai Mara Game Reserve

After breakfast, depart Lake Nakuru for the Maasai Mara. The drive takes approximately 5 hours to the main gate, passing through Narok, a famous Maasai town. Arrive in time for lunch and check in at your camp.

Relax until 16:00, then head out for an evening game drive with a chance to see the Big Five: lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, and leopard. Also spot herds of wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, impalas, Maasai giraffes, and other African wildlife. Dinner and overnight at Sarova Mara Game Camp or Ashnil Mara Camp.

Witness the famous wildebeest (Gnu) and zebra migration from the Serengeti (Tanzania) to the Maasai Mara (Kenya) between July and September, one of the world’s natural wonders. Maasai Mara is the stomping ground of the Great Migration, with 1.5 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebras, and 350,000 gazelles covering 1,200 miles in search of water and green grass. Enjoy additional afternoon game drives.

Dinner and overnight at Sarova Mara Game Camp or Ashnil Mara Camp.
